There doesn’t seem to be much energy anymore. We’ve come a long way since Trump’s escalator ride in June of 2015, catapulting his entry into politics. Now, the pervading sense seems to be: It’s all so tiresome.
While both camps are certainly exchanging punches, the growing Trump-DeSantis beef isn’t as entertaining as the jabs thrown during the 2016 Republican primaries, such as the public humiliation ritual “low energy” Jeb had to endure… please clap. There’s still time though. The battle will likely peak at the beginning of next year.
I like DeSantis. I respect what he’s done in Florida. But not only do I think Trump will triumphant in that particular battle, I also want him to. I could give a variety of reasons, but I think giving just one might actually be more effective than providing a list. Who needs a list when you’ve still got a pile of unused rocks?… Wait, what? I’ll explain.
In a recent episode of Alex Kaschuta’s podcast Subversive, she interviewed fellow right-wing podcaster/writer Auron MacIntyre, in which MacIntyre also expressed preference for Trump, saying that what’s needed at the federal level is someone who represents the best chance of rocks being thrown at the current regime. Donald Trump is that man. DeSantis, unfortunately, would likely be consumed by the swamp.
You might say that Trump had his chance. That he failed. And that he himself was consumed by the swamp he promised to drain. And you wouldn’t be wrong. My hopes aren’t necessarily high for Trump 2.0, but let’s be honest, 2.0 should’ve began in 2021, not potentially in 2024, and it’s going to bug me if we don’t get to see the sequel. Maybe they steal it again though? That wouldn’t surprise me. But steal or no steal, I want to see this thing play out.
For curiosity’s sake, let’s imagine the fix isn’t in this time and that Trump gains his rightful second term. There’s going to be some electricity, that much is inevitable. And it’ll come from both sides. But there will also be a bit of a yawning “we’ve seen this before and it didn’t work” sentiment coming from former and nominal supporters. And fair enough.
However, Trump has shown that he can read a room. Perhaps a lack energy is exactly what he needs to read. It might just cause him to do something a little more lasting. Instead of tossing rocks one by one at the regime, inflicting minimal damage, maybe he piles them all into a boulder, places it in a catapult and unloads. All because he wants to be able to check back with that low energy room and throw up the ‘ole Maximus/Russell Crowe: Are you not entertained?!
It was an escalator not an elevator.
Thanks. Changed it
