Recently the New York Times came out with a story about Trump privately discussing the possibility of him preemptively pardoning his three oldest children and his son-in-law. It’s not clear as to what the pardons would be for, but one source claimed that the conversation was within the context of the president feeling ‘embattled’ and not because he believes his children participated in any illegalities.
(As an aside, note how quickly the corporate press was ready to run with a story regarding possible family corruption within the Trump family and compare that with their ignoring and censorship of the Hunter Biden story.)
Now if it turns out to be true that Trump wants to pardon his children for actual wrongdoings, that, at face value, is something he can do — it is fully within his abilities. Accusations of nepotism will obviously be made, however, this wouldn’t be the first time a high ranking official’s kid gets off easy: see again, Hunter Biden. Additionally, President Clinton used his pardon power on his brother, so it wouldn’t be an unprecedented move.
But while that potential story remains up in the air, the second part of my headline is currently in full development.
Biden’s first order of business when he began to form his new cabinet was his national security and foreign policy nominees and appointees, showing everyone — most importantly, the world — where his priorities are. He even announced it: “America is back in the game.”
That supposedly sounds cool and authoritative and whatnot, and the corporate press, to be sure, has and will continue to say it’s good leadership. But initially to me, it merely sounded like another one of those empty Biden platitudes, the ones his twitter account constantly tweeted out during the campaign, while he napped in his basement and let the media do most of his campaigning for him.
Then the realization came that that this statement actually isn’t an empty one. Nor is it a platitude. This statement is a promise. But what kind of promise is “America is back in the game”?
Well, this brings us back to those state department appointees, the ones Biden was so eager to put in place, ones that one Democrat source was so excited about that they went so far as to call them “The Avengers.”
I’m not all that well-versed in the Marvel Universe, but from the movies I’ve seen the Avengers don’t actually seem to be real great at keeping and preserving peace. However, even if my assessment of that superhero universe is wrong, I’m afraid these newly branded “Avengers” making up the Biden State Department team will most certainly not be creating peace, and they’re defintely not superheroes.
In fact, they’re warmongers. All of them. Men and women looking to re-amp conflicts we’ve been in and back into ones we’re getting out of, and perhaps even start some new ones. People who believe it’s the U.S.’s duty to militarily spread “freedom” abroad, despite that policy being a proven failure and also despite our growing lack of freedom within our own country.
Apparently these are our new “Avengers,” and this is what “getting back in the game” really means. Makes one feel real good about having a career politicain back in the presidency, doesn’t it?
Now, a fair question would be to ask if we ever truly got “out of the game?”
Unfortunately, the immediate answer to that question is that we didn’t get out near as much as what Trump promised us. Some of that certainly was due to some form of a low-level coup that was going on, but a large part seemed to be due to too much disorganization withinin the administration.
However, Trump was the first president to not start a new war since probably the Carter administration. This year alone, Trump has significantly reduced the amount of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq and is promising more reductions by the end of his term.
Additionally, it’s incredible that we heard such things as “we were lied into war,” “endless wars,” and “stupid wars,” coming from a sitting president. Many will claim that these statements were undignified and below the office, but I disagree. That sort of rhetoric is needed and essential if we’re ever going to attain an America First and non-interventionist foreign policy.
Biden, with all of these new appointments, as well as taking into account his own record on foreign policy as both a Senator and as a vice-president, clearly does not want an America First, non-interventionist foreign policy.
So in conclusion, in the case that Trump does pardon his own kids, and as the media vomits all over itself when they report on that potential story, take some time think about the 18 year olds Biden’s going to be sending overseas to die in another stupid and endless war.
